What's not to love about a chocolate cake? I love a good cake recipe - whose kidding who - I love cake! Give me a cake over a pie any time and the cake will win. This recipe is a recipe for 2. Great for next weekend if you're spoiling your Valentine or good for the kids - they'll think the heart shape is pretty fun! It's easy and it tastes good.
Chocolate Heart Cakes for 2
Mix together and give it a good whisk
3/4 c. flour (spooned into measuring cup)
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. b. sugar (packed)
3 tbsp cocoa
1/2 tsp. b. soda
1/8 tsp. salt
Add
1/2 c. water
3 tbsp. veg. oil
1/2 tsp. white vinegar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Mix/beat until smooth.
Pour into an 8x8 pan, that you've line with parchment paper (will make getting the cake out much easier)
Bake at 350 for about 15-18 minutes.
Remove and let cool.
When cool, using your cookie cutters, cut out the heart shapes, my cookie cutters cut 4 hearts out this cake (don't have the cookie cutters - https://www.crocusandivy.ca/.../rsvpheartshapedbiscuitcut...)
Frost the top of 2 hearts* and place the other 2 on top. Dust with icing sugar.
* Chocolate icing
In a small bowl, add
2/3 c. icing sugar
1 tbsp. cocoa
1/8 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. melted butter
Slowly add in 2-3 tbsp milk (until it gets to the consistency that is spreadable)
Enjoy!
